In yesterday’s post, I mentioned that I made a few floral arrangements for my bestie’s baby shower. Today, I’m sharing a quick and super simple tutorial on how I achieved the look of a high-end florist at home!
First, I purchased an arrangement of flowers from Trader Joe’s. I grabbed the prettiest ones that I could see, in a mostly white and green (with a little pink) color palette. The flowers included hydrangea, snapdragon, alstromeria, and a bit of spray stock.
Grab your vessel and some scotch tape.
Tape off a grid pattern on the top of the vessel. This will keep the flowers from leaning to one side!
Snip your stems at an angle for maximum water absorption. Remove all leaves that fall below the water line.
I like to start from the outsides and work up. I usually chose the largest flowers (in this case, the hydrangea) and work on filling in to the smallest flower.
Next, I layered in with what I had the most of- the alstromeria.
I wanted this particular arrangement to look organic and wild, so I left some of the skinnier stems a little bit longer than others and layered towards the middle, filling in the bare spots as I went.
And that’s it!
And here it is on the table at the shower.
For maximum staying power, change out the water in the vessel every two days. If you reeeally want to stretch the life of your arrangement, stick in the fridge at night!
So that’s it! Super simple, and can be done with flowers from the grocery store. I love this arrangement and haven’t gotten tired of looking at it for the past few days! Fritters keeps wistfully staring at it…I can see the hunger in his eyes. But no fear- no cats allowed near this baby!
