“As you navigate through the rest of your life, be open to collaboration. Other people and other people’s ideas are often better than your own. Find a group of people who challenge and inspire you, spend a lot of time with them, and it will change your life.”
The idea for the Like a Boss Party began the second I moved to DC. I only knew a few people here in the city, and had heard of a few more- and I was determined to change that. So, I suggested that we throw a party to one of the only girls I knew here at the time, Teri from Nafasi Interiors . She had been thinking the same thing, and is not one to shy away from a party, so we knew it was fate. And just like that, the Like a Boss Party was born three years ago. We invited everyone we knew from the creative industry, and many others who we wanted to know- event planners, designers, artists, photographers, bloggers- and we were thrilled when 40 people attended. At that first party, we met our soon-to-be other halves, Kerra and Mariella. We soon became inseparable, and quickly added them as co-hosts for the second annual party, where almost 150 people showed. And this year, I was able to partner with my dear friend Summer from Simple Stylings and collaborate with the fab Jessica from Diet Coke to create an evening to remember. Almost 300 of the most inspiring entrepreneurs and creative folks attended this year, and we were able to celebrate the end of 2016 together with lots of champagne and conversation. We worked with some of our favorite local ladies to put together the Diet Coke in DC x Like a Boss Party, and I’ve got some amazing photos to prove it!
The party was held at the stunning Long View Gallery here in DC, and it’s an amazing open warehouse-style space with rotating art by local artists and amazing textures everywhere you look. Since the space is such a blank canvas, we were able to create a bright and colorful soiree that was fun and unexpected. We played off the traditional red and silver Diet Coke colors, and added in every other shade of red, pink, coral, orange, blush, and burgundy that we could think of. The end result was a beautifully layered palette with bright pops and sophisticated hues. We dreamed up the balloon canopy, and had so much fun building it the day of the event! We sent out Paperless Post invites with the same color scheme to set the tone for the event.
As soon as guests arrived, they were greeted by a handsome man and a tray of ice cold Diet Coke bottles, complete with a striped straw. An amazing faux boxwood wall and custom silver foil logo by Event Revolution was the backdrop for the photographer as she snapped photos of every guest who entered. Taffy Floral created a beautiful and organic spray of flowers on the boxwood wall in our color scheme (and put together the rest of the amazing floral arrangements for the event!)

Since Long View Gallery is a huge open space and we wanted to have several spots for people to sit, we turned to the incredible Something Vintage for furniture. They have an amazing selection of vintage furniture, and we rented every single piece of colorful velvet chairs and sofas that we could get our hands on- and they all came in our color scheme! It was an absolute match made in heaven. If you’re local and are in need of some incredible furniture for an event or photoshoot, please please work with them. Dawn is an absolute delight- she even came early to help style the vignettes and brought pillows and accessories to make sure everything was perfect!
They have everything- down to the rugs! We created several different “zones” that felt like your living room but chic-er.

For the food, we had two requirements: that it be bite-sized, and fun and playful. Heirloom Catering delivered on both counts! We started off with passed hors d’oeuvres- pop corn with a Diet Coke caramel drizzle served in hot pink containers (with a side of pink champagne, of course!)
Heirloom always comes up with the most creative food displays- how great are these mini ghost chairs?
We had a signature cocktail for the event, a rum + Diet, made with True Syrups tonic and fresh squeezed lime juice. And, of course, pink bubbles.
The party vibe was super chill, and set off by neon pink uplighting and an amazing set by DJ Alkimist. We deliberately chose a Friday night and a party that lasted 3 hours so everyone could relax and not have to worry about going to work the next morning.
For dessert, we had Buttercream Bakeshop make the most incredible macaron towers in our color palette, complete with edible silver foil to tie in the Diet Coke bottles. They were almost too pretty to eat! Almost.
Tickled Photobooth set up against an amazing textured wall in the space and snapped away all night. Each guest was able to take home their own photo strip- and I think it’s safe to say that everyone enjoyed it!

Things quickly got awesomely weird…
…but that’s exactly how we like it.
For the favors, we wanted our guests to take home something more than just a favor bag with business cards in it. So, we spent many days and many nights drinking champagne and eating pizza as we stuffed these little red boxes with goodies, and tied them all with a satin bow. Each box contained a mini bottle of the True Syrups tonic, a bottle of Diet Coke, and a striped straw so our guests could re-create our signature cocktail at home. We also added in a mini lipstick flash drive and a bottle of O.P. I. nail polish in a specialty silver color called “My Signature is DC”- which worked for Diet Coke and for DC!
The creative community here in DC is incredible, and I’m so grateful to be a part of it. This party has been our baby for three years now, and I cannot believe how it’s grown and the people it’s brought together. If you had told me three years ago that 300 of the most inspiring women and entrepreneurs I’ve ever met would attend our party for a night of socializing and support, I never would have believed you. And the creative celebrations are growing- Summer hosted a Diet Coke in CLT (Charlotte) party earlier this year, and wanted to help spread the creative fire to DC, so we combined forces for one big collaborative event. I have gotten to know her over the past year and she is such a wonderful and kind spirit- it’s SO great to turn online friendships into real life relationships! And I am so grateful to call my three other hosts my best and most inspiring friends. You never know how important influential and supportive entrepreneurial relationships are to you as a business owner until you have them in your life, and then you never want to let them go. Now, let’s see what next year’s party has in store!
