One of my favorite tricks as an interior designer who tends to have clients who live in smaller spaces, I know the power of a good mirror. It can play tricks on the eye, expanding a room and making it feel larger. It can reflect light, bouncing it around the room and making it feel brighter. It can be functional and beautiful at the same time. But, I find that some people struggle with the style or the scale of the mirror they use in their space- two things which can make a good space go bad, very quickly.
My entryway mirror is the Junius Uttermost Round Mirror from Bellacor. The scale is perfect, and the round shape contrasts with all of the right angles in the space, giving it a softer feel. The mirror itself is a big antiqued, and its foggy reflection is a welcome juxtaposition to the wall of mirrors on the right side of the space. (And yes, if you’re wondering: you can have too many mirrors. I would draw the line at anything that’s backlit or anything that hangs from the ceiling- unless of course, you have a heart-shaped bed…then by all means, go for it).
I placed the mirror on the darkest wall in the apartment, directly across from the wall of windows for maximum light reflection. It makes the space feel so much brighter, and it even reflects some of the lamp light at night, making the whole space feel like it’s glowing. I know that mirrors can be tricky, so I rounded up eight of my favorites from Bellacor right now- they have so many good options! And I know you might see a trend, but I like my mirrors gold or black, for the most part (and yes…round).
One | Arteriors Home Expedition Mirror– I love this in a hallway, over a console, or mixed in with a gallery wall.
Two | Arteriors Home Olympia Antique Mirror– this option is a whimsical take on a classic sunburst, and would be great over an entry table or fireplace.
Three | Uttermost Balkan Modern Mirror– this one is acrylic, so it would be great hung on a dark wall or a heavily-patterned wallpaper (perhaps over a bathroom vanity?)
Four | Nova Burnished Gray Mirror– I love the organic shape of this one, and how it’s not quite symmetrical.
Five | Uttermost Junius Mirror– HUGE statement piece if you have space for it (43″ in diameter!)
Six | Uttermost Crofton Mirror– also love this over a bathroom vanity; I love the slight edge around the frame.
Seven | Uttermost Vedea Smoke Leaning Mirror– this one has an antiqued edge and is great for the dark corner that needs some light reflection
Eight | Uttermost Kenitra Gold Arch Mirror– this is lovely over a vanity table or bathroom sink- the shape is classic but fun.
As you can see, Uttermost is killing the mirror game at the moment, and Bellacor has the best selection of them. I have also loved Arteriors, so it’s no surprise that I landed on those first two as some of my favorites, as well.
Are you in need of a mirror for your space? Which one is your favorite?
